Education for Ministry, affectionately known as EfM, is a program of theological education-at-a-distance of the School of Theology of the University of the South.

Students sign up one year at a time for this four-year program. It covers the basics of a theological education in the Old and New Testaments, church history, liturgy, and theology. Students meet regularly, usually once a week, in seminars under the guidance of trained mentors.

The program grants a certificate at the completion of the four years and 18 Continuing Education Units for each year's work.

EfM is currently offered in the following East Carolina parishes:

St. John's/ Holy Cross/ Good Shepherd, Wilmington - Mondays 6pm
Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Hertford
Church of the Servant, Wilmington
St. James Episcopal Church, Wilmington - Mondays 6:45pm

Christ Episcopal Church, New Bern
St. John's Episcopal Church, Fayetteville
St Stephen's, Goldsboro

If you're interested in starting or joining an EfM group in East Carolina, please contact us.

EfM now offers an online course for those who cannot attend a weekly face-to-face group, because of time constraints, family demands, or the lack of a local EfM group.   Click here for more information.
